SOFTBANK

SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son is reportedly planning a $1 trillion industrial complex in Arizona focused on AI, robotics, and advanced manufacturing, an ambitious vision aimed at reshaping America’s tech landscape.
The Details:
Son envisions the complex as a U.S. equivalent of China’s Shenzhen, bringing together robotics, AI, and chipmaking firms under one ecosystem called “Project Crystal Land.”
SoftBank is seeking collaboration with TSMC, although the chip giant’s level of interest remains uncertain. TSMC is already investing $165 billion in U.S. chip plants.
Talks have been held with U.S. Commerce Secretary and state officials to explore tax incentives for companies joining the initiative.
Son is reportedly approaching other tech leaders like Samsung to participate in the project, though discussions remain in early stages.
If realized, the $1 trillion project would dwarf the $500 billion Stargate initiative (backed by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle) that’s aimed at building nationwide data centers.
Why it matters:
This could become one of the largest tech hubs globally, offering the U.S. a chance to lead in AI and robotics manufacturing. It reflects a strategic push to reduce reliance on foreign supply chains and strengthen domestic innovation capacity.
OPENAI, MICROSOFT & ANTHROPIC
Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic are teaming up with two major US teachers’ unions to launch a $23 million initiative that will train 400,000 K–12 teachers in AI use over five years. The “National Academy of AI Instruction” will begin operations this fall.
The Details:
The program will provide AI training to teachers through workshops, online courses, and a campus in NYC
Backed by Microsoft ($12.5M), OpenAI ($10M), and Anthropic ($500M pledge for year one)
Curriculum aims to teach both how AI works and how to use it safely and effectively in classrooms
Educators will learn to use AI for lesson planning, grading, and student engagement without increasing workload
Participating companies may also use the program to test AI tools and gather educator feedback
Why it matters:
AI is already reshaping how we work. Now it’s being woven into how we learn. By training educators first, this initiative aims to equip the next generation with critical AI fluency while setting ethical boundaries for usage. It also signals a future where AI tools may become as common as textbooks in schools.

AI & TECH NEWS
French AI startup Mistral is in early talks to raise up to $1B in equity, with Abu Dhabi’s MGX as a possible backer. It’s also securing debt from French banks like Bpifrance. Already Europe’s top AI startup, Mistral has raised over €1B since its 2023 launch. Valuation details are still under wraps.
OpenAI is locking down access to its most sensitive research after concerns that Chinese firms may have copied its models. It now keeps key systems offline, adds strict safeguards, and brings in national security experts to prevent foreign spying and IP theft.
Anthropic proposed new standards requiring top AI labs to disclose their safety practices. This comes right after Congress allowed states to regulate AI, a move CEO Dario Amodei called too aggressive. Watchdogs support Anthropic’s call for accountability, hinting that openness may soon be a competitive edge.
Now in public preview, Deep Research lets devs build OpenAI-powered agents that automate web-scale research with traceable sources. From market analysis to compliance reports, companies can plug these tools right into their apps and workflows.
