Reddit has filed a lawsuit against Anthropic, accusing the AI startup of illegally scraping its content for commercial gain without a licensing agreement or user privacy safeguards.
The Details:
Reddit claims Anthropic violated its user agreement by scraping content over 100,000 times despite being told to stop.
The platform alleges Anthropic ignored its robots.txt file and continued scraping even after promising to block its bots in 2024.
Reddit says it offered licensing terms to Anthropic, which the startup declined, unlike deals Reddit signed with OpenAI and Google.
The lawsuit seeks damages, restitution for financial gains from the scraped content, and a court order blocking further use.
Anthropic responded that it disagrees with the claims and will “defend itself vigorously” in court.

The $10 billion will fund new data centers aimed at scaling Amazon’s AI capabilities and cloud services in North Carolina.
The investment is expected to create around 500 new jobs and follows a similar $11 billion plan in Georgia announced earlier this year.
