OpenAI has released a large collection of mathematical research created by an unreleased frontier AI model, showing how AI can now tackle difficult open problems at scale.

🔍 The Details:

  • OpenAI tested the model on around 4,000 open math problems across areas like number theory, algebra, geometry, and analysis.

  • The model produced 722 mathematical manuscripts, grouped into 372 families of related results, so the 722 figure does not mean 722 completely separate discoveries.

  • The papers include new proofs, counterexamples, partial solutions, and progress on long-standing unsolved problems.

  • Some results were converted into Lean, allowing computers to formally check whether the proofs are logically correct.

  • OpenAI has published the work for mathematicians to review, but the company says many results still need independent verification before they can be treated as confirmed breakthroughs.

📌 Why It Matters:

The important part isn’t simply the number 722.

OpenAI is showing that one frontier AI system can explore thousands of difficult research problems and generate hundreds of serious mathematical results at scale.

If a meaningful number of these results survive expert review, AI could become a major research partner for mathematicians, helping them test ideas, search for proofs, and explore problems much faster than before.

Anthropic just made its smallest Claude model faster, smarter, and dramatically cheaper, targeting AI workloads that need to run millions of times without huge costs.

🔍 The Details

  • Claude Haiku 5.5 is Anthropic’s fastest, cheapest, and most capable small model yet, built for high-volume tasks like customer support, summaries, classification, browser use, and AI agents.

  • Anthropic says Haiku 5.5 costs around 75% less to run than Haiku 4.5 on average.

  • For prompts under 100K tokens, pricing starts at just $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens.

  • Performance jumped sharply too: Haiku 5.5 scored 72.4% on OSWorld computer-use tests, up from 15.7% for Haiku 4.5, while also making major gains in coding and tool use.

  • Haiku 5.5 is available now in Claude, Claude Code, the API, AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry, and can also work as a fast subagent alongside Sonnet 5.5 or Opus 5.5.

📌 Why It Matters

Anthropic isn’t trying to make every task run on its biggest model.

Haiku 5.5 makes capable AI cheap enough for millions of everyday requests, from customer support to background agents, putting even more pressure on competitors to cut AI inference costs.

Claude can now work directly inside Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, letting you create, analyze, and edit files without constantly switching between tabs.

🔍 The Details

  • Claude for Google Workspace is now in public beta for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise users.

  • In Google Docs, Claude can draft, rewrite, restructure documents, answer questions about the file, and make edits directly in place.

  • In Google Sheets, it can analyze data, build financial models, create or fix formulas, make pivot tables, and generate charts.

  • In Google Slides, Claude can create new slides, edit selected content, and follow the existing deck’s layout, formatting, and theme.

  • Anthropic also launched new Docs, Sheets, and Slides connectors, letting Claude create and edit Google files directly from Claude itself, with users able to review changes before accepting them.

📌 Why It Matters

Claude is moving from being a separate chatbot to becoming part of the tools people already use every day.

For Google Workspace users, that means less copying and pasting between AI and their files, while putting Claude in more direct competition with Gemini inside Google’s own productivity suite.
