DEEPSEEK

Chinese AI startup DeepSeek is making bold claims about its profitability, stating that its AI services could have a 545% cost profit marginâbut only under ideal conditions. The company estimates its revenue potential based on hypothetical pricing, while actual earnings remain significantly lower.
The Details:
Optimistic Projections: DeepSeek estimates that if all usage of its V3 and R1 models were billed at R1 pricing, it would generate $562,027 in daily revenue, with GPU leasing costs at $87,072.
The Reality: Actual revenue is much lower due to discounts, lower pricing for V3, and the fact that many services remain free on web and mobile apps.
Market Shake-Up: DeepSeek made waves in January by launching a low-cost model rivaling OpenAIâs o1, despite restrictions on U.S. chip exports to China.
App Store Performance: DeepSeek briefly topped ChatGPT on the Apple App Store, but has since slipped to #6 in productivity, behind ChatGPT, Grok, and Google Gemini.
Why it matters:
DeepSeekâs claims highlight the intense race in AI economics, where companies must balance profitability, accessibility, and innovation. While its models challenge OpenAI and others, the real test is whether these numbers can hold up in the long run.
OPERA

Opera has unveiled Browser Operator, an AI-powered agent that can complete tasks across different websites, aiming to simplify online shopping, travel booking, and other web-based activities.
The Details:
Automated Web Navigation: Browser Operator can find products, book tickets, and look up flights and hotels, as demonstrated in a recent video.
User Control & Security: The AI works natively on-device, allowing users to monitor its actions and take control at any time, unlike cloud-based alternatives.
Feature Drop Release: The AI agent will roll out soon through Operaâs Feature Drop program, though details on broader search capabilities remain unclear.
Rising Competition: Opera joins a crowded AI agent space, competing with OpenAIâs Operator, Arc Browserâs upcoming Dia, and Perplexityâs Comet.
Why it matters:
AI is changing how we browse the web, and Operaâs on-device approach could make AI assistants more private and secure. If Browser Operator delivers, we might never have to manually search for flights or concert tickets again.
