Midjourney has officially entered the AI video race. The company launched V1, its long-awaited image-to-video model that generates 5-second videos from still images. This is a big move for a company that’s already a leader in AI-generated visuals.
The Details:
V1 is available only via Discord and currently limited to web users
It generates four 5-second videos from any input image, with options to extend up to 21 seconds
V1 supports random or custom animations, plus motion controls
Pricing starts at $10/month, but video generations cost 8x more than image outputs
Pro and Mega plan users get unlimited videos in Relax mode
Why it matters:
Midjourney is expanding beyond still images with a creative-first approach to AI video. While competitors aim for realism and commercial use, Midjourney is chasing surrealism and simulations. V1 is its first step toward building tools for open-world, real-time content creation.
OPENAI

OpenAI is officially ending its partnership with Scale AI, just days after Meta announced a multibillion-dollar investment in the startup.
The Details:
OpenAI confirmed it is winding down its collaboration with Scale AI and shifting to new data providers for more specialized needs.
The timing comes just after Meta invested heavily in Scale AI and onboarded its CEO Alexandr Wang, sparking concerns over neutrality.
Sarah Friar, OpenAI’s CFO, had previously suggested the partnership would continue, but OpenAI now appears to be moving in a different direction.
Google is also reportedly considering dropping Scale AI as a vendor, indicating a broader industry shift away from the company.
Scale AI’s interim CEO said the company will now focus more on building AI applications for enterprise and government clients.
Why it matters:
This marks a significant change in how top AI companies source their data. With both OpenAI and possibly Google moving away, Scale AI’s core business faces major pressure. The industry’s top players are increasingly prioritizing neutral, secure partnerships to avoid conflicts as the AI arms race intensifies.
Google has launched Search Live, a voice-first feature that turns traditional search into a dynamic spoken conversation using Gemini AI.
The Details:
Search Live is now available for Android and iOS users in the US who have joined the AI Mode experiment in Labs.
Users can tap the new “Live” icon in the Google app to start a voice interaction, receiving spoken responses and web links on screen.
The system supports follow-up questions, allowing natural, back-and-forth dialogue without restarting a search.
A transcript option lets users view text versions of the answers and seamlessly switch between voice and typing.
Search Live runs in the background, letting users chat with Google while multitasking across apps.
Why it matters:
Search Live shows Google’s push to make search more accessible and hands-free, catering to multitaskers and auditory learners. The feature could reshape how users find information, though publishers may worry about decreased click-through traffic when spoken answers satisfy queries directly.

AI & TECH NEWS
Despite offering $100M+ to lure researchers, Meta failed to pull talent from OpenAI and DeepMind. Sam Altman says OpenAI’s mission-driven culture is what keeps innovators loyal. The AI arms race heats up, but cash alone won’t win this one.
OpenAI released a free demo on Hugging Face showing how its Agents SDK powers triage-based customer support bots. It includes routing logic, Python code, a web UI, and built-in safety guardrails, perfect for teams looking to build fast, reliable AI support.
Anthropic added remote MCP server support to Claude Code, letting devs connect tools like Sentry and Linear directly, no local setup needed. Claude now pulls and acts on live context from online sources, streamlining tasks and boosting productivity in a single terminal.
CEO Andy Jassy said Amazon’s corporate workforce will shrink over the next few years as generative AI automates more roles. The company has already cut 27,000 jobs since 2022. Jassy urged teams to adopt AI to do more with less, especially in inventory and warehouse ops.
Gemini’s app now lets users upload video files and ask questions about their content. Rolling out on select Android and iOS devices, this feature builds on existing image and document support, marking a major step in bringing richer media understanding into everyday AI use.
