Meta has announced three nuclear energy deals to power its expanding data center footprint, signaling how far Big Tech is going to secure always-on electricity for AI.

The Details:

  • Meta signed nuclear agreements with Oklo, TerraPower, and Vistra

  • Vistra will supply 2.1 GW from existing reactors in Ohio, plus upgrades adding 433 MW by the early 2030s

  • Oklo plans to deliver 1.2 GW using small modular reactors starting around 2030, pending regulatory approval

  • TerraPower, co-founded by Bill Gates, aims to supply up to 2.8 GW of nuclear power and 1.2 GW of storage beginning in 2032

  • The deals stem from Meta’s push to secure 1–4 GW of new capacity for AI workloads as grid congestion worsens

Why it matters:

AI needs power that never sleeps. Nuclear offers reliable 24/7 electricity at scale, and Meta’s mix of existing reactors and next-gen SMRs shows how tech giants are reshaping the energy market. If SMRs work as promised, data centers may become the proving ground for the future of nuclear power.

Google has removed AI Overviews for certain health-related queries after reports found the feature was surfacing misleading and potentially harmful medical information.

The Details:

  • Google disabled AI Overviews for searches like “normal range for liver blood tests,” after findings from The Guardian

  • Slight query variations such as “lft reference range” still triggered AI Overviews with similar issues

  • Some AI responses reportedly misled users into thinking abnormal liver results were healthy

  • Other summaries incorrectly advised pancreatic cancer patients to avoid high-fat foods, contradicting medical guidance

  • Google said removals are handled case by case and claimed some health AI Overviews remain because they cite reputable sources

Why it matters:

TikTok is streamlining content creation and boosting monetization to keep creators loyal. With AI lowering the barrier to high-quality production and new incentives increasing payouts, the platform is strengthening its edge in the creator economy.

Google has announced a new open standard called Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), aimed at making AI agents a first-class layer in online shopping, from discovery to checkout and post-purchase support.

The Details:

  • UCP was unveiled at NRF and developed with partners like Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, Target, and Walmart

  • The protocol lets AI agents handle the full buying journey without needing separate integrations for each step

  • Google plans to use UCP in AI Search and Gemini apps, enabling direct checkout with Google Pay and Google Wallet in the US

  • Brands can now offer real-time discounts inside AI search conversations and enrich listings via new Merchant Center data attributes

  • Merchants can deploy branded AI Business Agents in Google Search, already used by Lowe’s, Michael’s, Poshmark, and Reebok

Why it matters:

Shopping is shifting from websites to conversations. By standardizing how AI agents interact with merchants, Google is positioning itself at the center of AI-driven commerce. If UCP gains traction, AI assistants may soon control not just discovery, but the entire transaction flow, reshaping who owns the customer relationship.
