GOOGLE

Google is now rolling out Veo 3, its latest video generation model, to Gemini users in 159+ countries. But only AI Pro subscribers can access it, and daily use is limited.

The Details:

  • Veo 3 lets users create up to 8-second videos from text prompts

  • Access is restricted to Google’s AI Pro subscribers, with a limit of 3 videos per day

  • Rollout spans over 159 countries, expanding Gemini’s creative reach

  • Google plans to add image-to-video capabilities soon

  • The launch builds on the company’s May demo of Veo 3’s realism and motion control

Why it matters:

Google is positioning Gemini as a serious creative AI platform. With Veo 3’s global launch and more features in the pipeline, it’s racing to keep up with tools like Pika and Runway in the AI video space. Limiting access may slow adoption, but sets the stage for a premium creative suite.

MICROSOFT

Microsoft is laying off 9,000 employees as it pushes deeper into AI. While divisions weren’t named, reports say Xbox and gaming studios are among the hardest hit.

The Details:

  • The layoffs affect 4% of Microsoft’s 228,000 global employees, with gaming divisions reportedly taking a major hit

  • The Initiative, the studio behind the reboot of Perfect Dark, will be shut down entirely, alongside cancellation of that title and Everwild

  • Other studios hit include Turn 10 (Forza Motorsport) and ZeniMax (Elder Scrolls Online), where longtime director Matt Firor announced his departure

  • These cuts follow three earlier rounds in 2025 alone, including a 6,000-role reduction in May

  • Microsoft is spending $80 billion on AI infrastructure, and recently hired Mustafa Suleyman to lead its new AI division

Why it matters:

AI is clearly the future for Microsoft, but it’s coming at the expense of real jobs and beloved game projects. The company is betting that automation and Copilot tools will define the next era, even as it struggles to convince workers to use them over ChatGPT. The industry-wide shift has only begun.

PERPLEXITY

Perplexity has launched a $200/month plan called Perplexity Max for its most demanding users. It comes with early access to experimental tools, cutting-edge models, and new features that aim to future-proof the AI search experience.

The Details:

  • Perplexity Max includes unlimited access to Labs, the tool for generating reports and spreadsheets

  • Subscribers get early access to Comet, Perplexity’s upcoming AI-powered browser

  • The plan unlocks priority access to top-tier models like OpenAI o3-pro and Claude Opus 4

  • Perplexity now offers 3 tiers: $20 Pro, $40 Enterprise Pro, and the new $200 Max

  • The company may also launch a Max plan tailored for enterprise users

Why it matters:

This ultra-premium plan could unlock more sustainable growth for Perplexity, if users bite. As AI search heats up, cash and model access might be what separates the leaders from the copycats.

AI & TECH NEWS

OpenAI has disavowed Robinhood’s sale of “OpenAI tokens,” saying they don’t offer equity. Robinhood claims they mirror shares via a holding vehicle, but OpenAI says no transfer was approved. The spat raises red flags over tokenized private stocks and looming regulatory concerns.

X is letting chatbots like Grok draft Community Notes to fact-check posts. The AI notes still need human approval, but experts warn of hallucinations and reviewer overload. X says mixing human input with AI could improve accuracy, though the approach remains risky.

Adobe’s stock dropped after Mizuho gave it a Sell—the first in months—citing doubts about its ability to stay dominant in a fast-moving AI world. As AI disrupts creative tools, investors and users alike are bracing for more competition.

Oracle will provide OpenAI with up to 4.5 gigawatts of US data center power across several sites, aiming for renewable sources. The deal cements Oracle as a key AI infrastructure player alongside Microsoft. Expect GPU supply to tighten as these projects come online.
