Google is taking the lead in the AI phone race with the Pixel 10 series, unveiled just ahead of Apple’s iPhone 17 reveal. These new devices aren’t just smartphones — they’re powered by deep AI integration designed to reshape user experience in daily life.

The Details:

  • Pixel 10 comes packed with new AI features like Magic Cue, Camera Coach, Pixel Journal, and Visual Overlays powered by Gemini Nano.

  • Gemini Live now detects tone of voice, adjusting replies based on whether you’re excited, confused, or frustrated.

  • Visual Overlays let Gemini ā€œseeā€ through your camera and highlight real-world items, helping with directions, translations, or shopping.

  • Google Photos now supports ā€œEdit by Asking,ā€ letting users change images with natural language commands like ā€œremove background.ā€

  • Pixel 10 is the first to support C2PA Content Credentials — a transparency standard showing if AI edited an image.

Why it matters:

With Pixel 10, Google moves from AI features to full AI-first experiences. This is a shot across Apple’s bow, showcasing how native hardware and software can merge to create a smart, proactive digital assistant — not just another phone.

MICROSOFT

Excel has rolled out a new AI-powered function called COPILOT, enabling users to use natural language directly in formulas to automate tasks like summarizing text, classifying data, and generating tables.

The Details:

  • You can now write formulas like =COPILOT("Classify this feedback", D4:D18) to instantly label feedback — no manual sorting needed.

  • It’s powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4.1-mini model and is the successor to last year’s LABS.GENERATIVEAI experiment.

  • It works with regular Excel functions like IF, LAMBDA, and WRAPROWS to build powerful workflows with natural language input.

  • Excel guarantees user data privacy — prompts are never stored or used for training AI models.

  • The feature is currently rolling out to Windows and Mac users in the Beta Channel who have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

Why it matters:

This makes Excel far more than a spreadsheet tool. With the COPILOT function, anyone can do AI-enhanced data analysis without learning complex formulas — just type what you want in plain English and let Excel do the rest.
