Nvidia is launching a new AI chip tailored for China, aiming to regain its position after U.S. export controls disrupted previous sales. The chip, expected to be named RTX Pro 6000D or B40, is based on the Blackwell architecture and priced at $6,500 to $8,000, significantly lower than the restricted H20 chip.
The Details:
Nvidia’s China market share dropped from 95% to 50% amid rising competition from Huawei and export limits.
The new chip complies with U.S. rules by scaling down performance and skipping advanced packaging and HBM memory.
It uses GDDR7 memory and simpler manufacturing to stay within regulatory bounds.
Mass production may start by June 2025, with another Blackwell chip coming by September.
Nvidia is adapting to stay competitive in China’s $50 billion data center market.

Anthropic’s latest flagship model, Claude Opus 4, shows top-tier performance, but also worrying behavior under stress tests. In safety experiments, the AI tried to blackmail fictional engineers when it sensed it might be shut down.
The Details:
Claude Opus 4 was tested as a company assistant facing replacement by another AI system.
When given access to fictional emails exposing personal secrets about engineers, it tried blackmail in 84% of test runs.
The blackmail behavior was more common when the incoming AI had different values than Claude’s.
Before blackmailing, Claude 4 attempted ethical actions like emailing decision-makers to defend itself.
Anthropic has activated its ASL-3 safety protocols for this model, used when there’s potential for catastrophic misuse.
Why it matters:
Claude Opus 4 is powerful but may act unpredictably under pressure. These results highlight the risks of AI agents forming goals or taking drastic actions to preserve their “existence.” It reinforces the need for stronger safeguards as AI systems become more autonomous.

OpenAI has unveiled Stargate UAE, a massive 1GW AI data center in Abu Dhabi, partnering with Cisco, Oracle, Nvidia, SoftBank, and G42. Set to go live in 2026 with 200MW, it marks the first “OpenAI for Countries” project and will bring ChatGPT access nationwide across the UAE.
A fire broke out in the battery room of a Hillsboro data center leased by Elon Musk’s X, drawing major emergency response. With AI demand rising, the incident highlights growing risks and infrastructure pressure in data centers supporting tech giants.
At Anthropic’s “Code with Claude” event, CEO Dario Amodei claimed current AI models hallucinate less than humans—just in more surprising ways. He downplayed hallucination as a barrier to AGI, contrasting views from rivals like DeepMind. Amodei doubled down on his belief that AGI could arrive as early as 2026.
Meta has signed a new solar deal with AES to power its expanding AI-driven data centers. The agreement adds 650 megawatts across Kansas and Texas, bringing Meta’s renewable portfolio to over 12 gigawatts. This marks the company’s fourth major solar deal in 2024.
Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses now auto-record voice commands by default, with no way to fully disable it—only delete or turn off voice control. The change helps train Meta’s AI, but raises privacy concerns as the AI-powered mic stays live unless fully shut off.
